Questions about

Coatings

What are the benefits of polyurethane coatings for construction?

Elastocast and Elastocoat® polyurethane, polyureas and hybrid coatings demonstrate high tensile strength and improved low-temperature elongation, as well as high temperature tensile strength and stability. Their exceptional strength makes them a great choice for blast mitigation or for use in hurricane, seismic and tornado risk areas. Whether its reinforcing an existing structure or creating a new storm-resistant structure, BASF polyurethane coatings are the right choice. They are also available solvent-free (100% solids) and utilize zero ozone depleting blowing agents and in many cases contain no VOCs.

What coating would you recommend for industrial storage applications?

BASF Elastocoat® polyurea elastomeric protective coatings are custom-engineered for low temperature elongation and high temperature tensile strength. When spray applied, they create a resilient and seamless membrane coating which is highly impermeable to water, corrosive chemicals and solvents and weather extremes.

Questions about

Adhesives

What are the benefits of polyurethane adhesives for construction?

BASF polyurethane adhesives provide exceptional bonding to a wide variety of substrates, over a significant range of temperatures. They help cut time, labor, construction and assembly costs. They work well with other BASF polyurethane chemistries and are available with the same industry-leading technical service support.

What formulas are available for construction?

Wide-ranging one- and two-component formulas are available, based on physical property or processing needs. Adhesives can be made to a range of hardness, elasticity, water or chemical resistance, or wide temperature range performance. Formulations can react to create the strongest possible adhesion to wood, or to bond other substrates such as EPS, OSB or specific metals.

Are polyurethane adhesives for construction environmentally responsible?

BASF offers adhesives that are 100% solids, containing no solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

What are the benefits of isocyanate woodbinders?

Lupranate® isocyanate composites offer strong internal bond and excellent water resistance. Our Lupranate® M20FB binder also gives the producer the option to increase productivity by reducing press cycle times because the binder sets up faster.

How do I choose between Lupranate® M20FB and Lupranate® M20SB isocyanate woodbinders?

A recent BASF fast binder study compared the two formulas using aspen at a face/core/face ratio of 25/50/25, platen temperature of 210 C and 1% wax emulsion for all panels. Test panels included 7/16" (2.5% PMDI dosage), 23/32" and 1" (both 4.5% PMDI dosage). The results showed that Lupranate M20FB reacts faster and gives stronger bonding. However, moisture content was found to be very important. FB with 4% MC was faster than SB, and FB with 6% MC improved performance.

Questions about

Sealants

What formulas are available for the automotive industry?

BASF has developed spray sealants formulated to meet virtually any manufacturing need. With our elastomers, you're adding a durable, long-lasting protective finish to your product, while taking the first step in providing a durable, long-lasting relationship with your customer.

What sealants are best suited for different specialized markets?

For air infiltration, we recommend Lupranate® M20 or R2500. For tanks and pipes, we recommend Lupranate MI, MM103, 5080, 5143 or T80. For gasketing, we recommend Lupranate MP 102, 5030, 5040 or 5050.

Questions about

Elastomers

What are the benefits of polyurethane elastomers for construction applications?

Elastocast polyurethane elastomers have exceptional tensile, tear and elongation properties, which makes them an ideal solution for reinforcing building panels or metal construction of any kind. They're stable over wide ranging temperatures and can be made highly resilient to impact, abrasion, cutting or tearing. They also can be filled for improved physical properties and to lower system cost. Spray-applied elastomers are often used in composites to add strength, protection or aesthetics to other materials. Good elongation and anticorrosion properties make cast elastomers well-suited for pipe coatings. And formulations are resilient and tear resistant are ideal for molds and concrete stamps. You'll also find them being used on expansion joints in bridge construction, in rail applications for highway crossings and for rail spike adhesives.

How durable are polyurethane elastomers?

While lighter than metal, BASF high performance elastomers can be molded to an amazing range of hardness levels, and have outstanding impact strength, even at low temperatures. As a result, BASF elastomers are being used in performance applications like gear wheels, rollers and pumps.

Are polyurethane elastomers versatile?

BASF elastomers can be molded to almost any size, shape and texture. This makes them well suited to producing everything from wristwatch straps to molds for simulated stone and outdoor decking to retail store mannequins.
